It’s a curious fact that the saying “primum non nocere” (first do no harm) attributed to the hippocratic oath actually comes from his treatise on Epidemics.

In times of uncertainty we are desperate to fill the void with something tangible. Unfortunately what usually fills the vacuum in the early stages of, oh let’s say a global pandemic, are a lot of opinions, anecdotes and outright falsehoods.The internet doesn’t help. It’s important for us as providers to help each other and our patients by sifting through the clamor. Here we will post regular updates on COVID related insanity and do a little myth-busting.

There is no evidence that NSAIDS are dangerous in patients with COVID

This myth comes from a single opinion piece in the Lancet. Which shows the dangers of pondering an unfounded hypothesis in the middle of a crisis.

There are currently no known evidence-based or approved medicines to treat COVID. That goes for all antibiotics, hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, Lopinavir-ritonavir, Tamiflu…You get the idea. There are definitely case reports of deaths attributed to some of these medication.
